Here is our latest post in our Featured Tutor series! As always, it showcases one of our many excellent tutors and demonstrates why she is so passionate about tutoring, and why we love her!

Katerina recently completed her PhD in History of Art at the renowned Courtauld Institute of Art, which is part of the University of London. Prior to her PhD she completed two Master’s degrees, one in History of Art (grade: Distinction) and the other a four-year combined undergraduate and Master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh (grade: First Class Honours). At A-level she studied English Literature, History, and French, and achieved an A grade in each subject. Katerina has been tutoring at all levels (from younger children up to Master’s degree level) since 2010, primarily in English, History, Religious Studies, and Art History, and she is one of our most popular tutors. She is innovative, organised, and very good at explaining complex concepts.

1. What do you like teaching?

I particularly like teaching English, literacy and creative writing.

2. What is your teaching style?

My teaching style is playful, thorough and intuitive. I’m conscious of the student’s learning ambitions, and get to know them and their writing individually. I have a positive attitude, praise students’ strengths as well as helping them with weaknesses, and do my best to engage them with the topic.

3. Tell us your best teaching moment.

I love those teaching moments when you see a student boldly tackling something they would have previously shied away from. Just recently, a student who habitually raced to finish his work stopped to consider the perfect word for his sentence, and another whose stories routinely featured only male characters, included a female protagonist in his latest work.

4. What are your interests outside of teaching?

Outside of teaching I enjoy yoga, dancing and writing my first novel.
